That’s So Cliché

Dictionary: Cliché
/klēˈSHā/
noun
1. a phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought.

We all know those “eye roll moments” when we think to ourselves, “Omg, that is so Cliché.” The annoyance of some familiar and seemingly unoriginal phrase, statement, opinion or even better… advice. Well get ready, my friends, for this may very well be the most Cliché blog post of the week.

I’ve heard this all my life, and it has never struck a cord with me until recently: Be positive, stop focusing on the negative, pray about it and then trust God to resolve it. There was actually a point when I was sure that if I heard the words “just pray about it” one more time, I was going to lose my mind. I was almost certain that any prayer that I had ever whispered had never made it past the ceiling. I didn’t see results, nor did I find peace within myself for a very long time. With desperation and a whole lot of soul searching I have come to realize that It was my own fault. I was sabotaging my own happiness.

The most recent “spiritual awakening” in my life occurred as a direct result of the miracles that I watched unfold during the disaster relief efforts “in the wake of hurricane Florence“. My mom worked tirelessly to gather food and supplies in the beginning of this ordeal and was hitting one road block right after another when she ultimately literally handed it to God. Boy did he come through in a big way, this time. From that moment on, when we needed something, we prayed for it and watched in amazement as it manifested in some way before our eyes. You can find the details of this incredible journey in Part 2 of “In the Wake of Hurricane Florence“.

Long story short, I must finalize this post with the most Cliché statement you will hear today: Believe in yourself. I know, I know… but try to fight off that eye roll and heed my advice, after all, what have you got to lose?

Wake up every single morning and tell yourself “today I will be confident, productive and happy”. In your free time, watch all the motivational videos that you can find on YouTube. Make it a personal goal to do something nice for someone, and lift someone else up. I understand the reserve that you feel in thinking that this is not an immediate solution to your problems, and you are right. But, I can assure you it is a great start. Just try it. A new lifestyle of positive thinking can change the coarse of your life forever.
